As well as the Fan Report, there are a couple of things we'd like to
pass on to all of you today.
At our April meeting with the NHL, Commissioner Bettman made one
important point that we fundamentally agreed with – that the NHLFA
attain a base of 75,000 members if the Association wants to be
recognized as THE voice of the fans and be taken seriously by the
League.
Mr. Bettman said that if we reach 75,000 members by January 2000, the NHL would invite the NHLFA to participate in the largest hockey fair
in the world. Toronto will host the 2000 All Star Game and Fan
Exhibition and being involved in this Exhibition would be a huge step for the
NHLFA.
Mr. Bettman obviously doesn't think our little 6,000 person
Association can ever reach 75,000 members. We think he is underestimating the
power of grassroots hockey fans. Let's take up his challenge! If every
one of you gets five people to join before September, we'll have 36,000
members; if the new members can each get five more people to join
before the All Star game, we will easily surpass 75,000 members. Let's
really try to do this and ensure the NHLFA a spot at the 2000 All Star Game
Fans' Exhibition.

they join and complete the poll they can add their opinion and send a
message to the NHL. Fan Report polling will end SUNDAY, JUNE 20 AT 12 MIDNIGHT (EST).
To try to extend the reach of the Fan Report and the Association in
general, we want to establish NHLFA "media rep" positions in North
American cities (Europe too if anyone is interested). This is one way
we would like to accept the offers that many of you have made to be more involved in the NHLFA.
Each media rep will be responsible for promoting the Association in
his/her particular area. They will contact local media when the
Association issues a news release or whenever the NHLFA has something
to say. If you are interested in this volunteer PR position, please
