Hi everybody, a few things for you, not the least of which are the
results of our mini-poll on ties. For good or ill, there doesn't seem
to be a huge consensus on this matter, but what we might draw from the
results is that League should be wary of going overboard in its
constant tinkering with the game.
We're sorry we couldn't include all your suggested tie-breaking
options, but we attempted to list those which seemed most workable and those we
received the most mail about. So have a look at the news release below
and see what you think.
The second point is there anyone out there who would like to become
the official or unofficial fund-raiser for the NHLFA? We haven't
worked out the details yet, but if you think you might be interested, just get in touch with us.
A tip of our hats to the 125-plus members who bought NHLFA fedoras. We
understand everyone is not in a position to make purchases but we do
appreciate those who could and did. For those who don't like hats,
we'll be getting some more NHLFA merchandise in The Store shortly.
Third, we have been chewing over the idea of presenting trophies to
players in the NHL on behalf of the Association, but weren't sure what
it should be and we didn't want to duplicate the NHL awards, etc.
Well, one of our members, Marc from Atlanta, (Thanks!) sent in what we feel
is an excellent idea. He calls it the Bang for the Buck Award, and it
would go to the NHL player who meets the dual criteria of giving the best
performance for the lowest salary not necessarily the League minimum just good value for money. Seems like a good idea. Anyone else out
there have a suggestion for trophies?
By the way, we're still in discussions regarding our next meeting with
Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow and will keep you posted.
The news release linked also announces that the NHLFA has registered its 5,000th member. Our goal is to reach 10,000 members by our first anniversary (April 20, 1999). Please keep spreading the word, it's working.
And finally, we have a question for you. If Mario Lemieux's fledgling
ownership group takes control of the Pittsburgh Penguins, should Super
Mario come out of retirement and resume playing to help the Pens
restore their financial stability?
Please visit our latest mini-poll (http://www.NHLFA.com/minipoll/) and
submit your answer before the Wednesday, February 24 12 midnight EST deadline.
That's it for now. Thanks everybody.
