Hi to all 17,107 members of the NHL Fans' Association (NHLFA) and
congratulations to our Colorado Avalanche and Ray Bourque fans.
There are a couple things we have to bring to your attention today: an
agreement we've reached with The Hockey News and the delays we've
encountered working on an agreement with the NHL.
First, we want to let everyone know about the agreement with The Hockey
News (THN) which could help us market the Association and attract new
members.
Over the years, many of you have suggested we aggressively advertise the
NHLFA to raise awareness and generate new memberships. It's a good
idea, but one we have never been able to afford. We now have the
opportunity to do some advertising and have our ads appear in the most
respected hockey publication, read by thousands of hockey fans.
The Hockey News (THN) has agreed to give us advertising space based on
the equivalent dollar amount generated by NHLFA member subscriptions.
For example, if 100 NHLFA members purchase subscriptions to THN at
$49.95 each, the NHLFA would receive $4,995 in advertising space.
The Hockey News has been providing comprehensive hockey coverage since
1947. It's published 42 times a year, including 36 regular issues and
six special issues. Once again, the subscription cost is $49.95/year.
It's a fabulous hockey publication - one that provides an enormous
amount of current information about the greatest game on earth.
We ask that you please consider subscribing to THN because it will be a
great boost for the NHLFA. We must continue to aggressively recruit new
members if we are going to have a strong voice in NHL circles. To order
THN simply visit http://www.nhlfa.com/thn
Regarding the NHL license agreement, in 1999 the League requested that
we sign an agreement which would permit us to use the "NHLFA" mark
royalty free. At the time, Commissioner Bettman assured us that this
was a mere formality. On two occasions since then, NHL lawyers have
sent us proposed license agreements, but in both cases the agreements
were far too restrictive to allow the NHLFA to properly represent its
members. Hopefully we can find an acceptable solution for both
organizations. Please stay tuned and we will keep you updated on this
issue.
In the meantime, please continue to recruit your friends and family and
share our story with e-groups on the Web. This is a critical time in
our young existence and a strong, growing membership base will help
tremendously. To "Recruit a Friend" visit http://www.nhlfa.com/send.asp
