National Hockey League Collective Bargaining Agreement
Article 3: Duration of Agreement
3.1. Term.

     (a) This Agreement is effective retroactive to September 16,
1993, and shall remain in full force and effect until midnight on
the 15th day of September, 2000, and shall remain in effect from
year to year thereafter unless and until either party shall
furnish the other a written notice of termination of this
Agreement 120 days prior to the 15th day of September, 2000 or
not less than a like period in any year thereafter.

     (b) Notwithstanding the terms of the foregoing sub-paragraph
(a), effective the day after the end of the 1997/98 season either
party may, in its sole discretion, reopen this CBA, by giving
notice to the other party no later than February 15, 1998.
Should the NHL or the NHLPA exercise its right to reopen under
this Paragraph, the provisions of Section 7.1(a) (No Strikes) and
of Section 7.1(b) (No Lockouts) of the Agreement shall be
suspended from the effective date of such reopener (i.e., the day
after the end of the 1997/98 Season) until the conclusion of
those negotiations.

     (c) Effective upon either party giving the notice referred
in sub-paragraph (b) above, the parties shall promptly commence
collective bargaining with a view toward negotiating a successor
CBA.

3.2. Binding Agreement. This Agreement shall be binding upon and
inure to the benefit of the NHL, the Clubs, the NHLPA and all the
players covered by this Agreement and their successors or
assigns.
